Episode #65 – Don’t let politics ruin your life: Thrive as an Empath

Introduction to the Crystal Self Healer Podcast

Welcome to the Crystal Self Healer podcast. I’m Corissa Weaver. On this podcast, we blend the magic of crystals with the science of psychology to help you break free from chaos, ditch the overwhelm, and master your emotions so you can have more energy, get more done and feel better every day. Get ready to unlock your intuition and restore your true power as we cover how you can transform your life using crystals and self-awareness.

Are you ready to get started? Alright, let’s go.

Understanding the Overwhelm and Emotional Whiplash

Have you been feeling like it’s all just a little too much lately?

The emotional whiplash of being ping ponged between extremes.

The rhetoric in politics moves really fast, while the wheels of politics can be slow.

With all the partially formed ideas clashing against agendas and norms, it creates an opportunity to sow division, keep people fighting against each other and themselves.

If you’ve been feeling exhausted and overwhelmed with the current state, don’t let politics ruin your life. In this episode, we are going to explore how you can thrive as an empath so you can find and choose the happiness you deserve.

Exploring the Devil Card in Tarot

So today we are going to be looking at the Devil card in the situation position. As has been the case, this is inspired by a weekly crystal and tarot forecast from inside the Charmed Community. If you’re into getting weekly insight and tarot wisdom, I encourage you to join me inside the free Facebook community.

Anyway, the Devil card is one that can instill fear and worry in the hearts of many. But if you get past your initial emotional reaction to the card, really sit with the card the card is really rich in what it can reveal to you.

The focal point of the card is the Devil with its imposing size and intimidating features, the talons of the foot that could do harm. The horns similar to those of a ram protruding from the head, the outstretched wings and the two captives standing in the foreground.

I get it. The combination of this imagery that has been used in literature and cinema to invoke fear are legit. We’ve been conditioned to see or infer these things as being bad or evil.

The Chains of Entrapment and Political Overwhelm

But I also want to draw your attention to the chains that are holding the two individuals tethered to the stone upon which the Devil sits.

These chains are loose with loops big enough to easily lift over their heads so they can leave the space of participating in their own entrapment.

The Devil doesn’t trap by force; it traps with belief in the trap.

It is challenging you to see how and where you’re buying into the nonsense, the turmoil, the distraction through destruction.

Where you’re giving your power away to negative forces, all because you are not willing to look at your shadow or darker sides, both personally and societally.

I get it. Politics is this thing, this machine that feels outside of us. And if you feel like you’re too small or insignificant to have an impact, that’s exactly what the Devil card is wanting for you to experience. That sense of hopelessness and mild defeat. You know, the kind that keeps you feeling nauseous, but not quite sick, so you don’t do anything.

And let’s talk about the overwhelm that comes from starting to get involved. There are so many moving parts, so many past laws or rulings that it can be confusing to see how or why we got where we are.

The emotional whiplash of wanting to bring about positive change, but being repeatedly knocked down by opposing views, positions, or when you buy into the heavy hand of it’s just the way it is. It’s a lot.

So many people then start disengaging, turning a blind eye, ignoring everything as self preservation tactics because it’s all too much.

But the Devil loves this. Look at the card, he’s setting the man’s tail on fire while simultaneously holding up his other hand as a distraction.

As I see it, there are two theories that are coming into play here.

Newton’s Third Law and Popper’s Paradox of Tolerance

First is Newton’s third law, which states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Now, I realize that we aren’t doing physics, but there is a strong metaphysical and metaphorical connection here.

When one side pushes a narrative, there is always an opposing force, either in support or resistance. We call them echo chambers, where each side is talking about the radical other side.

The stronger the actions taken by one side, the stronger the reaction is and the more extreme everyone gets, the more it fuels the cycle of division.

What is it that you believe to be true on an individual level as well as a political one?

Get curious about the truth of this and then the policy in support or opposition to it.

And then be curious about whether what you are supporting is truly going to bring about the value and belief you hold.

For example, I believe everyone deserves happiness by Divine right, and that they want to live their own version of happiness.

And for the sake of this episode, I’m also going to believe that you, my friend, believes the same thing.

Happiness can take on many forms: family, job, material things, for example.

Unless your motive is to gain your happiness by and through the suffering of others, one person’s happiness doesn’t negatively affect another person’s happiness.

And this leads us to the second theory at play here, and that’s Popper’s paradox of tolerance, which states that if tolerance allows intolerance to flourish unchecked, it will eventually destroy tolerance itself.

What we are watching is tolerance, pushing up against intolerance.

This causes the intolerant to push back harder, claiming suppression or persecution.

And here again, we need to be curious.

Because if we believe everyone wants to live their own version of happiness, and we believe that one person’s happiness doesn’t need to result in another person’s suffering, it goes to reason that if our actions are bringing about suffering, we need to question what we value.

Pushing back, while it may feel good and possibly lead to desired outcomes, it will continue to swing the pendulum and not bring about a lasting balance, and keeps the battle alive.

The key is in redirecting the energy into education of yourself and others, balanced policy changes, strengthening community, and not feeding into the emotional vortex.

What you can accomplish when you start to question and be curious, is you find where fear is driving the narrative, where fear is keeping you divided, or fighting, or disconnected from what you truly value. It’s when you find the community that is striving to bring about the exact same change you are, that politics becomes less overwhelming.

And this is when you get to lift the chains off your neck and tell the Devil to talk to the hand as you walk away for the happiness you believe you and every person deserves by divine right.

Black Obsidian: The Crystal for Shadow Work

Black Obsidian is the crystal I’m going to suggest as the supportive tool for this shadow work, and here’s why.

Many of the limitations you perceive are self-imposed, and Black Obsidian acts like a mirror revealing the hidden beliefs keeping you trapped in cycles of fear and division. By supporting you in seeing the old conditioning that you are unknowingly bought into, it allows you to release them and reclaim your personal truth.

Fear thrives in the shadows, distorting reality and keeping you reactive. By bringing these fears to the surface, Black Obsidian helps you see where fear is driving your decisions, empowering you to face them with clarity rather than letting them drive the car.

Black Obsidian supports your deep introspection, helping you see beyond emotional reactivity and into the root of your beliefs. With this stone as your ally, you can approach personal or political challenges with a clearer, more open mind, breaking free from cycles of division.

And when the intensity of everything leaves you feeling unbalanced and drained, Black Obsidian offers deep grounding and cleansing. While it absorbs and clears heavy energy, it will support you in feeling centered even with the chaos, so you can engage with the world from a place of strength rather than emotional exhaustion.

Empath Ritual for Releasing Fear and Chaos

So before we wrap up today, I’d love to leave you with a quick and easy ritual you can do so you can thrive as an empath.

You’ll need a candle, a fire safe bowl, some paper, a pen, and of course, your Black Obsidian.

Start by lighting your candle and getting comfortable in a quiet space where you won’t be disrupted.

Holding your crystal in your hand, bring your attention to your breath and allow yourself to settle into the moment.

Once you’re settled into the moment and you feel fully present, allow yourself to explore and ponder where you’re finding your life is subject to the chaos of politics.

Acknowledge the topic, the fear that bubbles up, the emotional reactions that follow and make note of it in your mind.

If you start spinning or grasping for solutions, bring your attention back to your breath and the present moment and allow yourself to settle back in.

When you notice that the fears and topics are repeating themselves, open your eyes and write down what came up for you.

When everything is out on paper, review it and look for common themes or issues that repeat.

Write these themes and issues on individual small pieces of paper.

And select one of the pieces of paper and light it on fire using your candle.

Recite aloud or silently affirm: “No longer tethered to the chaos, I release the illusion of fear and falsehood that has kept me bound.” as you place the burning paper into your fireproof container.

Let it burn fully before picking up the next paper and repeating the process.

When you feel a sense of completeness, blow out your candle, place your backup obsidian on your altar, or carry it with you throughout the day.
