I’ve been taking great solace from my recent dive into learning meditation. A quiet and peaceful mind is not what I typically carry on my shoulders.
We all constantly feel like we’ve forgotten something, that we don’t have enough time to do what needs to get done. It’s hard to stop listening to that internal voice that nags at you about your to do list.
It occurred to me that if this is what my head is like, and I’ve had years to learn and develop coping skills for all this “pressure”, what is it like in the minds of Thing 1, Thing 2 and Thing 3?
When searching for ways to share meditation with the Things, I came across the book Moody Cow Meditates by Kerry Lee MacLean. The story is so cute and the character makes a Mind Jar to help deal with emotions that are too big for littler people to understand and deal with. What a great idea!
Who doesn’t like to shake things?
And let’s be honest, who doesn’t like sparkles?
When it came time to create our own mind jars, I didn’t have enough glycerin on hand so we had to search for a different recipe that used what we had on hand. We had no shortage of glitter glue! This recipe is from Where Imagination Grows. There is also a recipe for a mini mind jar too!
Supplies you will need:
– Jar with lid
– Glitter glue
– Warm water
– Glitter
– Super Glue or Glue Gun, if you want to seal jar
Put 3 Tbsp to 1/4 cup of glitter glue in jar. Add warm water, leaving room. Close jar and shake to dissolve glue into the water. When glue is dissolved, open jar and add as much or as little glitter as you want. Close jar again, sealing with glue if you choose, and shake, shake, shake.
Watching the glitter settle allows your mind time to settle and quiet all the internal nagging.
Enjoy!
