Have you ever felt stuck between wanting something and actually making it happen? You set a goal, feel excited about it for a moment. Then doubt creeps in. You second guess yourself, wondering if it’s even possible for you, or if you even deserve it.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. We’ve been told that the secret to achieving goals is to do more, think more positively, or simply try harder. But if it really were that easy, you’d have done it already. The problem isn’t your effort or your willingness. The issue is a disconnect between what you desire and how you’re showing up for it. You’re trying to take action from a place of misalignment, and that’s exhausting.

You have the desire, the dream, the goal. Maybe it’s to start a new career, build a healthier relationship, or finally feel at peace in your own skin. The dream itself feels exciting, inspiring, and even doable. But when it’s time to take action, something gets in the way.
For example, imagine you’re trying to improve your health. You’ve got a vision of feeling strong and energetic, but deep down, you’re holding onto guilt for past choices or fear that you’ll fail again. That inner conflict makes it hard to stick to actions that would support your goal. You’re out of alignment and no amount of willpower can compensate for that disconnect.
Or think about relationships. You might long for a deeper connection with your partner or friends, but if you’re carrying beliefs like I’m too much, or I’m not enough, it’s hard to show up authentically. Even if you’re putting in the effort, the results don’t match your desires because your energy isn’t aligned with the outcome you want.
This misalignment can feel like a never ending cycle. You set a goal, take a few steps, feel stuck, and give up. Then you blame yourself for not trying hard enough or for not getting it. The problem isn’t you. It’s the way we’ve been taught to approach our desires. As if sheer effort alone can make up for an internal lack of alignment.
Let’s take a closer look at how misalignment shows up in everyday life. It’s one thing to talk about feeling stuck, but what does that actually mean?
For example, think about a time when you set a goal that felt important to you. Maybe it was to save money, get healthier or pursue a passion project. You started off strong filled with motivation, but somewhere along the way, things fizzled out. You skipped the gym one day, made an impulse buy, or decided to start fresh next week. Suddenly you’re off track, and instead of adjusting with compassion, you spiral into self criticism. You might think, why can’t I stick to anything? What’s wrong with me? But the truth is, the issue isn’t discipline. It’s alignment.
Misalignment can be over committing to the wrong actions. You’re hustling, checking off to dos, and staying busy, but your efforts don’t seem to move the needle. You’re putting in all this effort, but you’re not getting anywhere. This often happens when the actions you’re taking don’t connect with what you truly want, or when you’re chasing a goal because you feel you should rather than because it’s aligned with your deeper desires.
Another way misalignment shows up is through avoidance or indecision. You know you want something, but the path to get there feels so overwhelming or uncomfortable that you don’t even know where to start. You overthink every choice, worry about getting it wrong, and end up doing nothing.
Let’s say you want to switch careers. The thought of updating your resume, networking or applying for jobs feels daunting. Instead of taking small steps, you scroll social media, clean your kitchen, or dive into anything else that feels less intimidating. The avoidance isn’t laziness. It’s a sign that something inside you, isn’t fully on board with the goal. This often happens when you don’t trust yourself to make the right decision, or when you’re focused on avoiding mistakes than on moving forward.
And then there’s the emotional side of misalignment. Have you ever noticed how certain goals trigger unexpected feelings? Maybe you feel excited about starting a new project, but underneath that excitement is a nagging fear of failure, or even worse, a fear of success. You might long for a loving relationship, but you feel unworthy of being loved. These emotional conflicts create resistance that can stop you in your tracks even when your goal is something you deeply desire.
There’s a quote from Abraham Hicks that perfectly sums up what we’re talking about here: “if you don’t find that feeling place of what you’re looking for, not enough action in the world will make any difference.” It’s not about grinding harder or doing more, it’s about aligning your energy with what you want. When your internal state matches your desired outcome the path forward feels clearer, more natural and less like an uphill battle.
Now that we’ve talked about how misalignment shows up, let’s dive into what needs to shift. Alignment isn’t some elusive mystical thing that only a select few can access. It’s available to you right now, and creating it doesn’t mean you need to overhaul your entire life or become someone completely different. It’s about making intentional focused shifts that connect your desires with your daily actions.
One of the first shifts to make is learning to tap into your desired feelings before you take action. So often, we think achieving the goal will create the feeling we want whether that’s happiness, freedom, confidence, or fulfillment. But if you wait for the achievement to bring you the feeling you might find yourself stuck in a never ending loop of chasing. Instead, practice generating that feeling now.
Another key shift is learning to break your big picture into smaller, manageable actions. A lot of times people feel paralyzed by the size of their dreams.
For instance, if your goal is to build financial stability and the feeling you’re after is security, start asking yourself “What choices today can help me feel secure, even in small ways.” Maybe it’s as simple as setting aside $10 in savings, or saying no to a purchase that doesn’t align with your values.
Resistance is often misunderstood as a sign to stop or give up, but in reality it’s an invitation to check in with yourself. For example, if you’re feeling resistant about making a big decision, ask yourself “Am I out of alignment with the goal itself, or am I afraid of the growth it requires?” Resistance isn’t your enemy; it’s your teacher. It shows you where you might need more clarity, self-compassion, or adjustments to your approach.
So many of us stay stuck because we’re afraid of making the wrong move. But alignment isn’t about perfection; it’s about connection and trusting your intuition, your choices, and your ability to adapt. When you trust yourself to take the next step you start to align your actions with your true desires. You learn to be comfortable when you pivot, adjust and grow as he moved forward.
Finally practice showing up as the version of you who already deserves everything you desire. When you embody this truth, you no longer need to prove your worth. You simply express it. This allows you to approach your goals with curiosity and joy, not fear or obligation.
Making these shifts isn’t about quick fixes or perfect execution. It’s about creating a practice of alignment. A way of living that helps you close the gap between what you want and how you’re showing up. And as you do, you’ll find that the path to your desires becomes clearer and far more fulfilling.
