Welcome to the Crystal Self Healer Podcast. I’m Corissa Weaver. Get ready to unlock your intuition and restore your true power as we cover how you can transform your life using crystals and self awareness.
Are you ready to get started? All right, let’s go.
Everyone procrastinates sometimes, but when it consistently gets in the way of achieving your dreams, goals, and desires because you’re making choices and decisions that keep you stuck, that’s when you’re probably self sabotaging.
If you ever found yourself watching as you make choices that lead you away from experiencing the calm and centered life you dream of, this episode is for you.
Today, we’re discussing self sabotage and exploring how it impacts empath and sensitive women. We’ll uncover why you engage in these behaviors, how they show up in your lives, and most importantly, how you can shift them to take aligned action towards your goals and dreams. So let’s dive in and explore how to overcome self sabotage with crystals.
Self sabotage is something everyone can relate to, like choosing to do something even when you know it’s not really good for you. Maybe in a moment of weakness, you text your ex after having a few drinks. Maybe you compromise a boundary you want to hold when someone you don’t want to upset asks you to do something you’d rather not do. Maybe you put off tending to your own needs because you value the well being of your loved ones.
While many times your reasons for doing things might be from a desire to see the people around you happy and taken care of, if you are not experiencing the personal growth and satisfaction you desire, this could lead to feelings of resentment and discontent with your life and and in your relationships.
I want to make sure that we make a distinction between procrastination and self sabotage.
My kids are pros at procrastination. Their ability to avoid doing their chores is impeccable. As soon as it’s time to get things done, they suddenly scatter, claiming they need to get their homework done, or they need to study for a test. It’s absolutely amazing.
Quite simply, many times we procrastinate because we don’t really enjoy the task we need to do, but with the right deadline, usually these tasks aren’t hard to get done.
Self sabotage is different from procrastination because the impact is broader and can have a more profound impact on achieving your goals, dreams, and desires. With self sabotage, there’s usually an underlying unconscious pattern of behaviors and thoughts that undermine your ability to take action toward your long term goals.
Quite often, self sabotage is driven by fears or internal conflicts that create an emotional landscape that you want to avoid experiencing.
Many times the self sabotage you do will keep you stuck in unfulfilling situations, despite having the ability and opportunity to move forward because you have a fear of failure, low self esteem, or a deep rooted sense of unworthiness.
Self sabotage manifests in various ways, often through behaviors that seem to keep you safe, but actually hinder your personal growth and satisfaction.
You may have a natural inclination to care deeply for others and want the best for everyone around you. This can become self sabotage when you prioritize the needs of others over your own, constantly seeking to please others while neglecting your own desires and dreams.
When you’re placing the needs and wishes of others above your own needs, you may also find yourself worrying about how your actions may be perceived by others. This, in turn, leads you to play it safe and avoid taking risks because you have a fear of judgment.
You may find that you’re constantly analyzing your decisions and potential outcomes, resulting in analysis paralysis. When you overwhelm yourself with every possibility and thought experiment, you will miss out on opportunities or delay the ones that are time sensitive.
When you have an eye for detail and the potential to get stuck in them, you probably have a strong drive for perfection, leading you to set unattainably high standards for yourself, and then feel unqualified or unskilled in creating the perfection you envision, and this causes you to avoid taking action altogether.
You may have a habit of not setting clear boundaries that lead you to overextend yourself or neglect your needs. This can prevent you from focusing on what you need or what to do for yourself and leave you feeling drained by constantly accommodating others.
When you’re not confident in establishing clear boundaries, you may be experiencing a need to avoid conflict because the discomfort that comes with conflict can be too much for you to bear. Repeatedly avoiding conflict can stagnate relationships and personal growth.
Chances are you are prone to these fears due to your heightened emotional awareness. This awareness of the energy around you can lead to emotional overwhelm, making the thought of taking risks or facing potential failure even more daunting.
Now, self sabotage acts as a protective mechanism, a way to avoid these painful feelings. However, while it might keep you temporarily safe, it ultimately prevents you from achieving your true potential and living authentically.
Ultimately, this temporary relief leads to increased anxiety and stagnation. You remain stuck, unable to move forward toward your goals and dreams. So understanding how self sabotage shows up in your life is the first step toward overcoming it.
No matter how you self sabotage, know that these behaviors are in place because they keep you safe. Safe from having to feel all the ugly and not so pretty emotions and feelings that may arise from perceived failure or the negative self talk you are so good at repeating to yourself.
So while noticing what behaviors show up is the first thing you can do to overcome self sabotage, it’s still very much just a surface solution. I think it’s important to recognize that there are a lot of underlying thoughts that can create a block for you in shifting away from the safety behaviors of self sabotage.
Self sabotage often begins when your thoughts block you from taking action toward a goal, dream, or desire you aspire to. The key in overcoming self sabotage lies in understanding you have these thoughts, and then choosing to focus your attention in a way that works for you, allowing you to make progress.
Typically, there’s a perceived pain associated with what you’re attempting to do. Whether it’s fear of not creating a perfect project or the anxiety of potential rejection, the fear associated with failure, or perceived judgment you think you’ll get from others, these emotions can be overwhelming.
I recently watched the Tyler Henry Netflix show, Life After Death. What I noticed was his use of scribbling to channel the messages that he receives. I think this behavior fits in here because what Tyler is doing is providing his brain a way in which to disconnect from his regular thoughts and to create the clear canvas for receiving.
I bring this somewhat unrelated concept up because you can apply this to self sabotage. I’m not saying scribbling is your exact answer here, but more so the concept of creating a way for you to limit or quiet the unhelpful or un-serving thoughts. By creating a way for your brain to put down the thoughts and behaviors that you perceive as keeping you safe from the judgment, rejection, or emotional discomfort you fear.
And with a quiet mind, you then choose thoughts that are more conducive so that you can take aligned action toward the goals, dreams, and desires you hold.
No one ever accomplished their dreams by avoiding the step of taking aligned action. Visualization and belief are the foundation, and then the aligned action of trying different things to isolate what works.
This means knowing how you want to feel and making your best guesses about what will help you get there. Start by setting small, achievable goals that can build your confidence and reduce the fear of failure. Each step forward helps unravel the power these negative thoughts and self sabotaging behaviors hold over you.
Allow yourself to acknowledge the fear thoughts that arise, the negative self talk that surfaces, then challenge their validity. Are the thoughts you habitually are thinking truly serving you, or are they holding you back?
And use the outcome from the action you take to become the data you use to refine your actions. Build on the things that are working and change the things that aren’t working. The success of your endeavors is made up of so many smaller decisions and actions. To know all of them at the start is an impossible feat, so letting go of that expectation and allowing curiosity to prevail will be really helpful.
I invite you to use the Charmed Morning Ritual Worksheet to help you start moving toward your goals, dreams, and desires. You can find the link to download this worksheet in the show notes.
Taking aligned action involves trusting your intuition and making decisions that are in harmony with your true desires and values. By doing so, you begin to shift from a place of fear and self doubt to one of empowerment and self assurance. Overcoming self sabotage is a process, and each time you take aligned action, it brings you closer to your goals and dreams.
